As many as 70% of people have reported having experienced déjà vu in some form during their lifetime.

More incidents occur in people aged 15 to 25 years old than in any other age group.

The first experience is commonly known as déjà visite (“already visited”) and the second as déjà vecu (“already experienced or lived through”).

The phenomenon does appear to be very complex as there are many theories as to why it happens, however.

The scientific explanation ?..

It’s caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain.

“When events are occurring in the present, our brain processes the activity in a part of the brain called the amygdala. It occurs when present events are processed in a part of the brain typically used to recall past memories.

The parahippocampal cortex, which is very closely connected to the hippocampus. Because the event is processed in the parahippocampal cortex, it has a past ‘flavour’ associated with it.”

There you go, science has the answer.

But that does not explain how déjà vu can also be triggered by transmission delays in the optic nerve.

A delay between the image received by one of the eyes, can also cause the brain to experience this phenomenon.

The Scientific theory does not fully explain audibly (or scent) triggered déjà vu either.

It has also been reported, that déjà vu can occur just prior to a temporal-lobe epileptic seizure.

People suffering a seizure of this kind can experience it during the actual seizure activity or in the moments between convulsions.

Since déjà vu occurs in individuals with and without a diagnosed medical condition, this does not appear to be the answer either.

Several psychoanalysts attribute déjà vu to simple fantasy or wish fulfillment, while many psychiatrists put it down to a simple electrical mismatching that causes the brain to mistake the present for the past.

Many parapsychologists however, assume it is related to a past-life experience.

The more open-minded out there can see, that déjà vu may be triggered by similar events occurring simultaneously, in different dimensions via a shared, or mirrored conciousness.

So if human Scientists, Medical  Practitioners, Psychiatrists,  Psychoanalysts and Parapsychologists cannot furnish us with a definitive explanation, is it time to look elsewhere for the answer?

  1. Hey Outlaw Jimmy, keep up the good work and fuck the trolls mate. On the subject of Deja vu? A boring story but I was a kitchen porter in this restaurant, I was vac pacing some beef stock….. Bang…. I froze. I had never been there before or had that kind of job before, never really cooked, certainly not vat packed but I 100% had done it before, I shat myself. I had been there before even though I hadn’t! Crazy shit mate. It makes you wonder what the so called ‘dormant’ parts of the brain are doing?

    1. Doesn’t it just?.. Interesting story BTW & thanks for the comment Rich 🙂
